With both his parents being memebrs of the Star Fleet, it was probably inevitable that Vuong Bao would be too; all the more so because he was born on the massive Starbase 3 space station. He grew up in various stations and bases, moving from post to post with his mother or father as their assignments suited. He did well in school, and entered the Academy at 16.

Bao was doing well at the Academey, following a Science track like his parents, when tragedy struck. His mother was killed by hostile natives while on an away team. Bao took the next term off, and when he returned he switched tracks to Security & Tactics. He had decided that what he wanted the most was to keep anyone else from having to go through what he did.

Bao is very agressive and threat-conscious, almost to the point of paranoia. This is partly from his childhood, and partly from having to deal with Marines. His first post was a junior officer on Base Station H-2; his second was aboard the troop transport Sicily. Security's job is to protect away teams and to keep order on the ships; Marines excel at creating disorder and in trying to police them, Bao learned to always expect the worst.

Bao came to the Surya only two months ago, having completed a tour as 2IC of Security aboard the dreadnought Konkordium and then as CSecO aboard the light cruiser Manitoba. He is still trying to fit in, as his duty and zeal make it hard for him to relax and make friends.
